The Maid - Nita Prose

 

Welcome to Regency Grand Hotel where you would be meeting one of the most intriguing fiction characters of recent times. Meet Molly, the maid, or often referred to as Molly maid. There’s no doubt that Author, Nita Prose, has created a true 21^st Century female protagonist who would surely be one amount the best any other in recent memory.  

The Maid by Nita Prose is an entertaining whodunit mystery which is dependent more on characters rather than on the events taking place in the story. Routinely, murder mysteries are stacked with events occurring one after the another ultimately leading to the killer or the antagonist, often ignoring character development and background. The Maid takes a different route altogether and perhaps surprises the reader at the end.

Another unique aspect of the book is that the entire narrative is in first -person format. Molly, the maid herself narrates you the story and also her life and this is where a relationship develops between the reader and the maid. In fact, after some chapters, Molly would ultimately end up becoming a part of the reader’s life until the end of the book. Slow reading is advised as that would bring more joy to the reader.  As the book progresses and as one gets to know Molly and her, she could become that special friend whom you always wanted to be.

The plot majorly takes place inside Regency Grand Hotel, Molly’s house, the surrounding locality near to the hotel and of course the police station and the court.  One day when Molly is busy with her daily work at the hotel inside the suite of an elite high -profile guest, Mr Black, she ends up becoming the only person discovering a dead body and from there starts the quest to the find the killer by the local detective and ultimately by Molly with the help of her friends and well- wishers.

Thought the plot is not complex, but there are ample twists and turns narrated by molly keeping the reader entertained all through. The Other key characters involve Molly’s granny, Mr Preston, the door keeper of the hotel, Rodney- Molly love interest, Juan Manual- Molly’s friend at the hotel, Detective Stark who is in charge of the case and finally Charlotte, Mr Preston’s Lawyer daughter who would be presenting Molly at the court. There’s one more important character, Giselle, second wife of the person who is murdered. Her Character takes different turns through the story keeping the reader interested in the developments coming in her life or from her side.

Readers will surely get a good understanding of a hotel housekeeping process and good peek into the life of the staff who are responsible for the keeping the hotel rooms tidy. There has been good amount of time spent on Molly’s cleaning antics showcasing as to how keeping things neat, tidy and clean, is an important characteristic of Molly’s life, and perhaps her motto too. She links every thing and perhaps every act of others directly to her standards of having things clean and tidy.

The language of the book can be said to be bracketed into the Royal category. Readers would enjoy the use of language and words by different characters, especially Molly and Mr Preston.  As there are limited characters in the story, the narrative keeps the reader guessing as to who would be ultimate culprit. As the layering of events has been done very smartly in the writing to the keep the actual act of crime under wraps until the final act. Little hints come in the form of events in the background making the reader wonder that something is wrong out there but the accrual revelation in the end ties the knot very entertainingly.

Coming back to the character development of the protagonist, Molly. The reader will enjoy the different shades presented in her life. Happy, sad, tragic, humor, anger, romance, innocence- there is everything when it comes to Molly. She’s that friend everyone would want be with. She’s that sister everyone would want to be with. She’s that colleague everyone would want to work with. She’s that employee every employer would want. Molly, the maid is just fantastic. Read this book if you want to meet this awesome character and after the book comes to the end don’t forget to read the Epilogue, because Molly’s granny always would say that, everything will be okay in the end. If it’s not okay, then it’s not the end.

The Epilogue is a classic one. Don’t miss the epilogue.
